Small businesses and the posts
This week, the Federation of Small Businesses published a reprt entitled "Small Businesses And The UK Postal Market".
The report points out that there are 4.3 million small businesses in the UK which contribute 52% of K GDP and employ 58% of the private sector workforce. It argues that: "The postal system remains crucial to maintain the smooth running of a small business from both a communication and financial aspect".
The report outlines the results of survey with 3,356 reponses which found that 88% of respondents send post every day and 69% send invoices through the posts.
The FSB concludes: "There is uncertainty as to whether the new liberalised postal market will benefit small businesses, particuarly those in traditional non-profit making areas".
FSB official Francesca Woodhouse put the findings of the report to DTI Minister for Posts Jim Fitzpatrick at a meeting this week of the Counters Advisory Group convened by Postwatch at its London officies.
