Safer neighbourhoods, sustaining post offices
We were pleased to see that Post Office Ltd has developed a partnership with another police force to deliver basic services whilst sharing costs. People in Greater Manchester can now pick up safety advice alongside their postage stamps, postal orders and pensions thanks to a new initiative that sees post offices in the county getting a designated police officer.
The scheme follows existing partnerships between Post Office Ltd and police forces in Norfolk, Dyfed Powys and in Scotland, which provide valuable additional opportunities for remote rural subpostmasters.
Postwatch welcomes such moves by Post Office Ltd to work with local service providers. The organisation cannot stand still whilst waiting for the government's long-promised consultation on the future of rural and deprived urban post offices.

With the rising cost of mailing, can we also expect a police escort to and from the Post Office when we go to purchase stamps for our Christmas cards?
