First post for WHSmith
Post Office Ltd has announced that it intends to franchise another 70 Crown Offices to WHSmith, in an attempt to save costs and prevent closures.
Losses in the Crown Office network are expected to hit £70 million this year. Change is therefore necessary if we want to ensure that in the long-term there is a network of viable post offices in High Street locations.
The partnership will make sense to many customers, and certainly on the whole we are satisfied with the quality of the customer experience in the six post offices franchised to WHSmith so far.
Of course, Postwatch will consider every proposal case-by-case, and will ensure that the needs of customers are fully taken into account wherever a franchise is proposed.

And of course in asian/black/ethnic minority areas, there are no WH Smiths on the high st.
What about these people?
I don't understand the point the previous comment is making. I thought WH Smith was taking over the business transferred from closing post offices not providing extra ones, or am I wrong?
In Hackney (a poor London borough) we don't have any Smiths. If a post office closes there, won't the Post Office look for someone else to take on the business?
